I am an enthusiastic photographer, and I'd love to get some experience in fashion photography, so yay for this blog! I have a personal, media-related blog and a Flickr if you are interested in having a peek at my photography. You'll see loads of my images on this blog, as we are planning to put a lot of our own looks online! But first, here's a few of my inspirations, my personal Fashion Five.
My Fashion Friends:
If I could befriend any stylish people, purely for the chance to delve into their wardrobes, it'd be...
Summer from (500) Days of Summer
I am partial to a dress in the colour blue, as my friends know... Eyes are rolled every time I gravitate towards another blue number on the sale rail. Fans of the film will be aware that the light blue colour scheme was chosen by Mark Webb, the director, to highlight Zooey Deschanel's pretty pupils. Summer is clearly a girl that knows how to compliment her assets with her outfits, a skill that every woman aims to possess.
As well as the colours of her ensemble, I also love the vintage style she flaunts. The cute day dresses that she wears have inspired a few of the outfits in my own wardrobe, and there's no doubt that if I could count Summer as a bestie, I'd borrow all of her vintage pieces to wear myself.
Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl
Although I lost interest in Gossip Girl sometime during the second series, I never forgot my love of Blair's preppy and pretty outfits. She knew what her staple style was but she didn't feel restricted to it, as her style went through a natural progression as the seasons passed by.
As Alan pointed out, she has donned some "questionable" outfits (cough-that monstrous pink hat below-cough) over Gossip Girl's six seasons. Although I might not be wild about every ensemble of hers, I appreciate her experimentation, you'd be a bearer of a bland style if you always played it safe...
Taking fashion risks has lead to a few disasters, but I still love her style regardless. I am not one to judge fashion blunders, I've had too many of my own, I'll leave the sassiness to Alan. Anyway, I'm attempting to run a style blog here, I have no doubt that I am going to have just as many fashion faux-pas as Blair, and they'll be easily accessed by all internet wanderers. I'm a meme waiting to go viral. Oh well, t'will be grand!
Anyway, how could I not love Blair, she has the best taste in coats!
Third on my list of style inspirations is the blogger of the sickly sweet, yet ever-so-addictive, Scathingly Brilliant blog. I have always been a fan of everything super 'kawaii' (cute)... Those close to me have become accustomed to the squeal that escapes me when I spot something utterly adorable. And cute is a look that Kate has perfected.
When her blog appears on my dashboard it is a little sprinkling of pastel colours, hair bows and dainty cat designs that brightens up a dull day. Her dresses are a flattering shape and feature the prettiest patterns. And it's not just the dresses that ooze cuteness, the accessories are sweet little touches. I love the tiny details of her outfits. Take the purple and pink outfit below as an example; the light pink belt and matching tie may be small additions, but they complete the outfit. Plus, I'm pretty sure I have that exact dress!
My Photography Gurus:
If I could hand pick photographers from around the world to guide me in my quest to take spectacular fashion photos, it'd be...
Tim Walker
Tim Walker's images are a visual treasure chest. Often surreal and always spectacular, Walker creates otherworldly scenes with an eye to detail of epic proportions. One day, in a distant future, after I've put in years of hard work and failed as much as I've succeeded, I hope that I will be ready and able to create photographs that are as stunning and artistic as Walker's work. Until then I will practice, and I am sure this blog will be filled with images that are inspired in part by this amazing photographer.
Even in the days when I was simply a magazine junkie, with no aspirations to become a photographer, I appreciated the work of Tim Walker. At the time I didn't know the name of the the magical photographer that created the photographs below, I just knew that they were whimsical and unforgettable. I adored them, and still do. I even cut up the Miss Dior image to use in one of my old journals...
Natalie Dybisz AKA Miss Aniela
Although Miss Aniela is not soley a fashion photographer, she's a massive inspiration to my photography in general, and I predict that she'll be an inspiration to my fashion photography for this blog. For any aspiring photographers out there that feel like they'll never become a success, browse through Miss Aniela's Flickr. Rewind back to her first images and you'll see that they are simply snapshots of her life. Fast forward a few months and Miss Aniela's feed becomes much more interesting and creative. Then skip to her most recent updates, and you'll see intricate and otherworldly images, far more advanced and professional than her first simple photographs. Following journeys of the Flickr famous keeps me motivated - it helps to remind me that through hard work I'll be able to produce spectacular images too.
Miss Aniela is one of the pioneers of the clone technique, which is when there are multiple images of the one person in the same photo. I especially like her clone photographs, and I'd love to apply try it out for a fashion shoot.
So that's my Fashion Five, three of my style icons and two photographers that I admire. Of course I have many more inspirations, but you'll just have to keep your eyes on this blog to find out more.
